Love Rules!
I don’t think most people fully understand the power of love. With so much hate going on all around us, it gives the impression that the entire world has to be filled with hate rather than love. Though this would be a very inaccurate perception, it is like ‘the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.’ Or, ‘one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel.’ Or even, ‘just one drop of poison corrupts several gallons of clean drinking water.’ Yes, negativity has its power. It is very pervasive but it can’t stand up to the power of love. The two are not even in the same arena when it comes to pure power. Why! Because the entire universe was created from the substance of love. Through love, God created all things and put them into motion so they would grow and prosper. Had He chose to hate instead of love at creation, everything would have imploded upon itself. Hate destroys, while love rules!
Imagine the power of light against the power of darkness. A small ray of light can penetrate darkness but darkness cannot do the same. The reason being is because darkness is not a substance, it is only the absence of something, which is light. When you turn off the light… darkness does not radiate, it only appears when there is no light. In a similar manner… where there is no love, hate appears. If love were present it would overshadow hate because love is a natural substance while hate counteracts everything that is natural.
When it comes to people they are either filled with the substance of love or its absence. People are only empty vessels filled with the fuel that compels them to operate. Train a child in the ways of love and they will grow up producing fruits of love. Do not train a child and they would be void of love. That would be like having no light in a closed room. The vessel would be empty. But if you put hate into that child they would become a vessel of hate and more than likely produce fruit of that kind.
Knowing that you are a mere vessel… what do you suppose your chemical makeup would be? Are you a vessel of love or are you a vessel of hate? Alternatively, you could be only lukewarm, neither very good nor very bad? In the eyes of God being lukewarm would be like salt that has no flavor, what “good” would it serve? We know that people filled with goodness adds to the benefit of others, while people who are filled with hate or evil takes away from others. Those who add nothing actually becomes a burden because they are like un-salty salt, absolutely worthless!
Some people just don’t want to be bothered with the affairs of others and choose not to get involved. You might ask, ‘what is wrong with that?’ Other than thinking only of themselves… absolutely nothing! But, what do you suppose their Creator would think of them. He gave them life and being… just like all the rest of His creations and they chose not to do anything with the gift of life. I can’t speak for God, but I would imagine that it would be like casting pearls to the swine!
But, this conversation was intended to be about the substance of love. Love is the most powerful substance in the world because God is love and He made all things out of Himself. You don’t see God going around boasting or bragging about how good He is because He made us to become His vessels that would carry forth His goodness. As we choose to love and spread love, He smiles at us knowing that we are using His essence. It was like that when an ailing lady touched the hem of our Lord’s cloak and He felt it. The lady was instantly healed. That is the power of pure love when instigated by the substance of faith. It reflects the power of God. Love is the purest of all substances that exist. Why don’t we consider using love more frequently? It’s because we don’t really perceive the full power that is contained in love.
One of my favorite descriptions of love can be found in the Holy Bible. It was written in a letter by Apostle Paul to the early Christian believers in the town of Corinth. He said:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
Every single statement from this passage of scripture is so profound to me because it reveals the many qualities about love that we might not see fully in ourselves. We might wish that we treated love in such a manner but upon further self-evaluation, there are some missing parts in most of us. Perhaps we are not as patient or kind as we could be? Perhaps we are a little too proud of ourselves? There may be times when we dishonor others or seek to gratify the needs of the self. Most of us could be easily angered, especially when we feel that we have been wronged… we feel the need to get even.
True love wants nothing to do with evil but just how many evil thoughts have crossed your mind lately? Although I would like to always speak truthfully, I know that I lie much too often. But here is where love stands above all else and reveals its true nature. Love always protects, always trusts, always keep hope alive and always perseveres, it will never fail us, in spite of what we think. This is because love attaches itself to your immortal soul and it knows the final destination so it never fails to achieve its mission.
So in spite of the squeaky wheels, the bombastic loud and abrasive noises, and even the popular appearance that hate might be revealing, hate is not a natural substance… it is only the absence of the true substance that it tries to overshadow. Since each of you are the vessels that decide how you wish to be filled, it is up to you to make the choice. Will you choose love that is undoubtedly from God or hate that from a power that was created from a vacuum caused by the absence of God. Yes, hate is personified in evil and evil does have a prince, the prince of darkness, which is also the lack of light. I could go on and on about this darkness but this subject is all about love, the very substance from which all things were built. Let us all allow the light of love to shine through our hearts and towards others. Love is the most powerful substance in the universe. Why we use it so seldom, is so amazing? Love rules! Selah!
