The Wrath of God
I often write about the love that is in God but one has to realize that as deep as God’s love is for His creation His counterbalancing power is equally as deep. It is what is known as the Yin and Yang of the universe. For everything to exist it has to have something to give it balance. This is the perfection of creation. Everything neatly fits in its place and space, which controls harmony. One must realize that as good as things can be there is the possibility of its opposite. We tend to only want to think of the good side of things. Rarely do we imagine what balances its existence.
The third rule of the law of motion states that for every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. The laws of nature explain the powers that operate the universe from both the physical and the metaphysical aspect. We think of it as the physical and spiritual aspects of being. Scientists call these laws the uniformities or regularities in the universe, which are mere descriptions of the way the world operates. As smart as our scientists can be they still can’t figure out God who is the Creator of everything that they attempt to dissect and study. All they know for sure is that there are polar opposites in the universe that holds things together. One has to be made aware of that fact.
When I speak about the wrath of God I am not saying that God causes bad things to happen but more in the fact that God simply pulls away His hand of protection from the elements that already exist. It is God’s love that protects His own. The destructive polar opposite elements are there regardless, serving as counterbalances. They can wreak havoc, cause complete annihilation, or even total destruction without God’s protection.
Imagine if the earth fell out of its orbit and drew closer or farther away from the sun. The earth would be instantly destroyed. God’s protection keeps that from happening to us. But if mankind insists upon rebuking and dishonoring God then God simply can just turn His back on the unrighteousness of mankind and allow what is there to do what it does. The wrath of God is more in not doing something rather than doing something that causes negativity. God, Himself IS only LOVE.
Bible scholars can site various times when God allowed horrific things to happen to people He created. Many chapters we read in the Old Testament about the times when God allowed bad things to happen to His chosen people for their willful disobedience and totally disrespecting His precepts. There are consequences already built in the universe that states for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It is God’s grace that keeps man from reaping what he rightfully deserves by his actions. The Bible will also tell us that when it rains it does so on the just and the unjust alike. When mankind as a populace gets so far out of God’s plan for the world it draws the wrath of God which essentially opens the floodgates of destruction at the hands of man, not by God’s hand.
The first of the major catastrophes that we read about in the Bible is the great floods during the days of Noah. This is found in the Book of Genesis, chapter six. As the story goes there were sons of God upon the earth that were having children with daughters of man. This greatly disturbed God and brought about His wrath. To pick up the story read Genesis, chapter six starting in verses 4–6:
“There were giants in the earth in those days’ and also after that when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men, which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every imagination of the thoughts of his hears was only evil continually.”
Understanding this passage requires a bit of scriptural discernment but safe to say that these acts caused God great concern and He decided to do something about it. Continued in verse 7–8:
And the Lord said, ‘I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repented Me that I have made them.’ But Noah found grace in the eyes of God.
The wrath of God is very well noted in the Bible on many occasions but I will not bore you with the many biblical accounts of history. I simply want to make the point known that the wrath of God is well documented. It happens when the actions of mankind get so far out of hand that God simply pulls back His hedges of protection and allows the elements of nature to take their due course. You can read the entire story of Noah’s ark, the destruction of the earth’s population, and how God saved a reminisce of His creation in order to repopulate the earth. If you want to see the fate of mankind perhaps it is best to at least know our history.
Imagine the wickedness that is going on with our kind today. Even in our lifetimes we often witness horrific events committed at the hands of man. We have widespread acts of pure evil throughout the land. Look at the use of slavery in America and all around the world. Look at what Hitler did to the Jews or the Armenian genocide or the plight of the indigenous tribes of Indians in America. The list goes on and on and it appears to be no end as to what man is capable of doing to his fellow man. Do you suppose God hears about this from heaven? Do you think the floodgates are not poised to explode? Just how much grace is in that very deep reservoir of God’s love? Do we really want to test God?
Right at this very moment in time, we are experiencing something that the entire world hasn’t seen as a collective. It is not that is hasn’t happened before but that now with our fancy technology we can spread the news and see things from all around the world almost as it happens. A worldwide pandemic is upon us. Do you suppose this has something to do with the wrath of God? And if you believe that is remotely possible do you think it was because of God’s actions or would it be because of the acts of mankind? Regardless when it rains it does so on the just and the unjust all the same. So what are God’s children to do at times such as this?
“If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now Mine eyes shall be open, and Mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now, have I chosen and sanctified this house that My name may be there forever: and Mine eyes and Mine heart shall be there perpetually.” II Chronicles 7:14 This is the word of the Lord God.
Those who have already given themselves to the Lord know about this continual behavior that is amongst us. It seems impossible for mankind to follow God’s simple rules and to just be kind to each other or treat one another as you would want to be treated yourself. How hard is it to just love one another as God loves us? For those outside the flock have a reason to be frightened. All should fear God because there is no end to His Almighty power. But, He would rather that we simply love Him as He loves us but I guess history has proven that this will not happen in this place.
I would simply repeat what this scripture says and tell the children of God to humble themselves, pray and seek God’s face, turn from any acts of unrighteousness, and know that God hears your prayers from heaven. He will forgive us of our sins and heal our land. The only land we have in this place is our mortal bodies that will perish but our souls will find their way back to the One that gave them life and being. Praise be to our Heavenly Father for His grace and tender mercy. Selah!
