There Are No Words to Describe This President

NOTE: I must apologize in advance if my opinion and words are offensive to anyone. It is not my intent to cause any further harm than we are currently facing as a nation.

Many of us learned of a popular statement growing up down south that we attributed to our mothers or grandmothers that goes something like this: “if you can’t say something good about somebody then it is best to say nothing at all.” For the most part, I try to practice this sentiment because sowing discourse does nothing good. It is hard to get something good out of something bad or evil. However, in life, you learn that there are times when you really need to speak out about things. For example, if you see a fox in the henhouse stealing and killing your chickens you need to speak up and let someone know, otherwise, you will have no more chickens. Likewise, if you see a president doing things that cause harm and even death to American citizens then you need to speak up otherwise, you will have no more Americans left.

I have squeezed every brain cell that I have remaining for over the past almost four years and I cannot think of a single nice thing to say about this president. I need to apologize in advance to my mother and grandmother who passed many years back because I am compelled to say something about this person. If no one speaks up we are all going to hell in a handbasket with this person leading us like the Pied Piper. I agreed with what I was taught by my elders back in those times that prudence was the better of judgment. But we are no longer living in those times and if we continue to see this fool operate in such a dangerous manner and say nothing… then we are just killing ourselves along with everyone else we know and love. There are no words to describe this person we call our 45th president.

It might be the fact that I currently live in California, a state that is progressive, truthful, believes in science and medical professionals; that adheres to the right to live and to be a responsible, self-sufficient human being, and one that knows when someone is trying to sell you a bag of lies that even they do not believe. There was a time when I blamed this man who we have given the title of an American President. It can be confusing because during the history of the presidency there has never been one that is this incompetent and unqualified for the job at hand. To think that he is the Commander-n-Chief of a nation is like waking up in a Freddie Krueger movie, a nightmare on Elm Street, only to find out that you are not asleep.

You might wonder how can this be possible in this day and age of advanced technology. We have access to facts right through your computerized cell phone that gives us access to data and information that you once had to go into a building called a library and spend hours looking things up and reading what was reported. Today this information is right at your fingertip. You can pull it up in seconds on your smart gadgets. Your phone can probably even read the information to you if you do not wish to scroll through the pages with your own eyes. That means for you to be ignorant of the facts you have to stick your head in a deep hole in the ground and insist on not coming out of it until hell freezes over. This nightmare we are experiencing is like standing in front of a mirror and denying that you are looking at the person you see in the mirror, which is you. Totally baffling!

My focus is no longer on this person that we, and I do mean we, gave the right to call himself our Commander-n-Chief. We are the body of citizens that runs this country. We are a government of, by, and for the people. Another American President in his Gettysburg Address mentioned this as he was referring to the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 87 years before that date he gave this address. Lincoln described that this nation was conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. He realized that the Civil War was a test that would determine whether such a nation, threatened by the succession crisis could endure. In that famous speech President Lincoln mentioned this at Gettysburg:

“that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Can you imagine the crisis this nation was facing as it was attempting to divide itself along racial lines? Such a time of crisis seems to bring out the best of the best because of necessity. It can also bring out the worse of the worse. The current times we are facing is no less threatening to the very fabric of life we are experiencing. But take a look at who we have at the helm? At the worst of times, you have the worst of leaders. This is a very toxic combination that will leave a stain on our history even deeper than previously known. This is because of how much we have grown and experienced and how many resources we have at our disposal. There is no explanation for our demise while having this much that we can use so readily. What happened to the fail-safe back up systems? What happened to those entrusted as our checks and balances to protect us from tyranny? Did they all buckle under this crazy person?

In this democracy, we suppose to have checks and balances in our body of government so if one person makes a mistake there are other smart minds around that person to fill the gap, which should ensure domestic tranquility and keep the motor running smoothly. Fortunately, our American President has three branches of government with all sorts of cross-checks and balances to avoid us from being subjected to a dictator or a crazy person sinking our ship. When we see things going wrongly there are dozens of smart people in leadership positions that are to stand up and fill the gap so our government of the people, for the people, and by the people will not suffer or perish.

When the founding fathers of this nation got together to create our laws and a system of government that would work best for the people they painstakingly fought and argued policies, laws, and rules of governance that would be as fair and decent as possible. They even took into consideration how faulty our human nature can be. They fought to protect us from how bad it could get if we had a deranged person somehow swindled him or herself into the position of the Commander-n-Chief. They set up a system that would protect us from such an occurrence. They foresaw a day when the worst of possibilities could happen so they placed guardrails in place to protect us. So what happened to the guardrails? Can that many people all be that incompetent or are they all just cowards laying down on the job they were entrusted to uphold?

The one thing that I detested the most about those “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies was the state of despair that was presented. The victims seemed to have no hope. Everyone died and there was no knight in shining armor to save the day. This sentiment appears to be quite prevalent in our nation today. It could be that way even around the entire world. The more violent, deadly, scary, horrible, and evil the movie is the larger audiences they attract. We have this gluttony for punishment. Everyone seems to be pulling for the bad characters today. People want to see more blood and violence so this sentiment is seeping into our way of life.

The reason we are stuck with this president is that he represented the “bad-tough-guy in the movies. He used the cruelty of firing people and being mean to them by treating them very unkindly. Americans have grown to love the “rough-em-up,” tough guys all dressed in black. You wonder if the people who voted for this man believe that he would treat the entire nation like he treated the characters on his television show. In truth, he never changed his character by one iota. Even to this day, he is so precisely true to what and how he presented himself from the very beginning. Why are people surprised that Donald John Trump is being Donald John Trump and now he is also the commander-in-chief of this nation? There are no words!

Fortunately, we are the people and we get to decide how we wish to be governed. We decide upon the character of the nation as a whole that we want to reveal. Are we a bigoted nation that divides people who are different? Are there certain people who can receive privileges (the goods) while others are restricted from receiving goods? Are we better off segregating people who are different and building walls around themselves to keep others out of their precious land… that they stole? If what we see here today truly represents who we are as a nation then this is not a pretty picture and we are not nice people.

Even though there are no words to describe Donald John Trump that could survive out of the gutter of hades, my concern is not about him but about who we are. We produced him and put him on the altar. That says a lot about us, the people. Perhaps we made a mistake? At this stage, we can only speculate that there are more decent people in this nation than those that support this person. History will let us know shortly. We are not to judge them because history will do that for us. No, there are no words to accurately describe “the Don,” but if “we are the people,” then we need to define who we are and what we stand for. There is much written about God and country in our literature. Could that only be smoke and no substance? Soon we shall see. Every American that has a voice and a vote should stand up and be counted so we can truly see who we are and what we stand for.

I have personally come to the conclusion that an apple does not fall far from its tree. A good apple comes from a good apple tree. A bad apple comes from a bad corrupted tree. Good people do what good people do and bad people do what bad people do. People act, do and respond according to their character. If you stand by the side of those who do good that means that goodness is in you. If you stand by and with those who do bad or evil, that means such a seed is in you. An apple does not fall far from its tree. If you see something in your own character that is not good you should be the first one to extinguish that character flaw. If you cannot see your own faults just look at the people you associate with or those attracted to you. They are drawn to things of their own kind.

What is done in the darkness will be brought into the light of the truth? It is unavoidable. I no longer blame people of bad character for being who they are because that is all they know. But for those who sheepishly stand by a person that is evil and practices evil and treats others badly, they are the scum of the earth, worse than those who are just being themselves. There are no words… Selah!
