What Is Impossible With Man Is Possible With God

Luke 18:27

These were the spoken words of Christ Jesus, our Lord, and Savior as He was speaking with a rich man who wanted to serve but he had a problem with selling all he owned and feeding the poor before following Christ. Christ saw how hard this was for the rich man so he looked at him and said:

“How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” Luke 18:24–27 NIV

So in essence there are so many things in this life that appear to be relatively impossible for us to achieve but if we allow God to do them for us, and through us, there is nothing that is impossible with God, who created everything out of absolutely nothing. What mankind does not have the power to achieve by his own wits… God can make a way.

Right off the top of my head, I can think of dozens or maybe even hundreds of things that are impossible for me to achieve. There are things that God expects of His children that are virtually impossible for me to achieve. So what am I to do? Do I just give up in disgust and antipathy? Why would I beat up on myself trying to do things that I cannot accomplish with my own abilities?

In order to be a good Christian, which means to be a follower of Christ, there is much that one has to learn just as did the rich man that Jesus was speaking with about serving the Kingdom of God. If you don’t know what you don’t know then one could easily walk away disgusted at themselves and lose faith and hope. What is important about Christ’s statement implied to this rich man was that if you accept Christ then it would not be you alone that does the feat but the Spirit that lives in you that does it. That does not mean that you will grow wings and fly like a bird but that God alone will satisfy what God expects of you. Your sufficiency is fulfilled in accepting Christ as Lord of your life and He delivers you fully acceptable to the Father in spite of your imperfections. Hence, what is impossible with man is completely possible with and through God.

As I was meditating upon writing this piece I couldn’t help but notice all that is currently going on in our world. We are experiencing times such as we have never experienced in our lifetime with such magnitude. It is as though a very dark cloud of negative energy landed on the earth bringing the entire world to a standstill. First, we had the spread of a worldwide pandemic that circled the globe causing nearly everyone to stay at home in order to protect themselves from catching the virus, COVID19. The shock and awe of what we were experiencing was beyond believable but with the constant rise in the death count all around the world, and with America leading the death count, people reluctantly had to comply with the order to shelter at home and learn how to protect themselves during the pandemic.

With nearly everyone from most places around the world sheltering in place at home our attention was practically glued to the news broadcasting the spread of the virus and the ever-increasing death count. After weeks of being homebound people started getting antsy with the caged bird mentality. They felt the need to break out and live.

It was about at that time when everyone was watching the news about the spread of COVID19 virus and the rise in the death count that we saw yet another killing of an unarmed Black man by the police that was caught on camera, just as we have witnessed so many times before over the past nearly 30 years since the Rodney King incident in 1991. Finally, Americans of all races got a chance to see exactly what Blacks have been complaining about since the days just after slavery.

Blacks have been systematically beaten and killed mainly by policemen hired to keep them under tyranny and oppression. Blacks have been brutalized, lynched, dragged with a rope, raped, pillaged, needlessly incarcerated, castigated, and treated worse than an animal for over 401 years and now everyone saw it. This time they really understand why Blacks were crying for justice and equal treatment from the law, especially racist policemen.

In other words, what has been impossible for Blacks to explain because no one in power wanted to listen, God caused it to be placed under the scrutiny of a microscopic view in the spotlight so the entire world could see. Fully exposed, the fight for equality was no longer just a Black man’s fight but this time all Americans needed to decide what it meant to be an American. Was this who we are and what we have always been since the founding of this nation? The simple answer is YES! What had been done in the dark has been brought into the light of God’s truth in a way that is unavoidable to grasp and empathize.

When God decides to get mankind’s full attention He doesn’t need to use the world wide web, but instead He can cause the entire world to stop practically in its tracks and pay attention to what He is saying. Even still there are those who will look at the truth and refuse to believe what they see. It is as though they looked at themselves in a mirror and instantly forgot what they looked like. A hardened heart blinds the eyes of those who are outside of God’s umbrella. He will not allow them to see the truth because of their willful defiance. It is for the sake of His people that what has been done in the darkness will be brought into the light. Yet, mortal man still wants to defy God! For the sake of the elect, we must pray for those who oppose God because they really don’t know what they do or who it is that they are defying.

If you were to take a snapshot of the world today and go back hundreds of years in time you would not be able to match this moment in history because all the ingredients had to be just right in order to create this predicament as it stands today. As Reverend Al quoted from the scripture in Ecclesiastes 3 at the eulogy of George Floyd, which was an essential piece of God’s puzzle, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:” Can you even imagine just how perfect God’s orchestration of time and matter is that He would reveal to us a picture of this magnitude.

The heavens declare the Glory of God’s Hands. It is as though He is shouting from the heavens down to the earth: “I HAVE HAD ABOUT ENOUGH OF THIS MADNESS FROM YOU MORTAL MAN SO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!” Obviously I cannot put words in God’s mouth, but if you belong to Him you can clearly hear Him admonishing us to turn from our wicked ways and seek His face as it is written in 1 Chronicle 7:14–15

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

In the very next passage He says:

“Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.”

Many of us are old enough to remember that TV commercial by a phone company that said, “Can you hear me now?” If you cannot hear God shouting from the top of the mountain then perhaps you do not belong to God. But for those who belong to Him, His eyes are open NOW and His ears attentive to the prayers offered from this place, Earth. If we pray and seek God’s face He will hear us now and as promised. He will forgive our sins and heal our land.

So, what has been impossible with us for so, so, so long is made possible with our Heavenly Father, but we need to turn to Him… we need to humble ourselves… we need to pray… we need to turn from our wicked ways… and then we can get what God promised to His people. He is quick to forgive and by my clock, He is very slow to anger. But whoa is me if we do not take advantage of this particular window in time when God opened the doors from heaven to give us this warning. Let all those who have ears to hear and eyes to see gather this message. Selah!
