When Has America Ever Been Great
The dictionary would define great as wonderful, first-rate, very good, notable, remarkable, exceptionally outstanding, important, highly significant or consequential, and the like. For a country that was formed by taking the land of its natural inhabitants and using African bond slaves as animal-like labor to construct its foundational building blocks, and, knowingly carrying on this practice for hundreds of years, I wonder which of the dictionary definitions of greatness can be truthfully used to define America as great!
As a man of faith believing in a divine God, I can assure you that using the standards as set by Christ as an instrument of measurement, this country has never been great, noble, or godly. Anyone who would make such a claim would actually have to deny Christ to do so. Even He said this about himself “no one is good, only God is good.” Jesus only attempted to mirror what He saw His Father doing. All righteousness and good comes directly from the Father. What part of this American experiment mirrors Christ?
Let us not pull holiness into our petty human argument here, but instead let’s use the standards set by man to measure greatness. Who thinks capturing Africans and treating them like animals, forcing them to live in bondage, treating them very inhumanely, raping their women, beating and killing the men who would not submit to their captivity, and willfully using such practices in the name of God is something that could remotely be called great? Such behaviors would not even reach the mark of decency and certainly not good or great. If anyone considers such practices as great, they need a serious adjustment to their moral compass. Does anyone think killing the indigenous inhabitants of this land and stealing their land and property is great? Does anyone deny the two things I just mentioned in this paragraph actually happened?
I am open to listening to a rational explanation about American greatness based upon facts. You cannot be a little pregnant. You cannot be good on one side and evil on the other if you wish to be called only good. Either you are good or not. If you are not good, then why go around claiming all this exceptionalism. Why claim to be a country that trusts in God almighty? If you are a liar, a cheat, a killer, and a thief, then be who you are and let others know that you like what you are. Stand boldly by your practices! If that is what is good for you, then the rest of the world would have been put on notice. But to lie and portray this “sheep in wolf clothing image” is just another nail in your coffin when you meet your Maker.
No, I am not The judge! You will meet Him and that is a promise from your Maker. Only your Maker has the privilege of judging you. As you measure you shall be measured. You shall reap what you sow. This is not up to me or any human being on this planet. One thing that is absolutely certain, no one will escape the consequences of their choices and certainly not their acts and deeds while living on earth. That might not mean much to you now but woe is me!
It baffles me as I watch people that appeared to be decent human beings becoming puppets of someone that does not even try to hide his immorality. Lying seems to be his native tongue. He does not care about his fellow man. He only cares about himself. You are either his friend or his foe. If you do not agree with him, you are scum even though he praised you while you praised him. He is not even two-faced because only one stands out like a sore thumb.
If you want to judge him, our 45th nation’s leader, by the Ten Commandments I don’t think he would pass either one of them. If you want to judge him by the teachings of Christ, I know that there is not one standard that he would pass. And yet, many people who call themselves followers of Christ will stand by such a person that would throw Christ under a rolling train if He were present with us today. You cannot lye with man and beast at the same time. Either pick one and dismiss the other or suffer the lowest common denominator. Even infant children know this. Speak with a child and ask them what they think of this person? Out of the mouth of babes. Unless you become as a child you are not worthy of the kingdom of heaven. If anyone causes harm to even one of them, they would be better off to tie a millstone around their neck and jump into the deepest part of the sea rather than face what God has coming to them.
There comes a point in our mortal lives when we must make a very clear choice. We are either for the Creator of the universe or against Him. You can’t have it both ways. God will not share His stage (kingdom of heaven) with the evil one nor the ones who practice evil. Even at this mark in the history of mankind, many souls are given a clear chance to identify where they stand. Either you are for or against Almighty God. If that choice does not matter to you then you will look back from the seat of death and know that God has cautioned you and you were given the opportunity to repent.
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
American has been corrupt since its inception but it served as an idea to inspire the world to come together as one people, living together, loving one another, helping one another, and truly becoming one nation under God. That idea is on the brink of destruction. This land is on the brink of becoming a desolate land as did many other evil empires. God will have no part of sleeping with the beast. He is sending a message to all His people urging them to make their selection clear. You either stand on the side with God and His righteousness or on the side of man. The two have opposite eternal destinations. America can only become great when she places God in the most forward position. To God be the glory. Selah!
